When We Accept God’s Timing…

“When we accept God’s timing, we truly begin to live in faith, trusting and knowing that He is at work now and always.” – Carly Benson

If you really delve into this thought, the power behind it is rather life-altering.  Some of you may be very familiar with this concept, while others this may seem a tad foreign.  So, I’d like to approach this from a very elementary explanation as this affirmation has single-handedly changed my attitude and in turn changed my life.

The basis of this is that fact that you need to get comfortable with the fact that you are NOT in control of your life.  Sure you make your everyday decisions about what to wear, what to eat, when to sleep and how you are going to spend your time, but ultimately, none of that really matters.  What matters is that you can rest assured knowing that no matter what you think you are “choosing,” God’s plan for your life supersedes everything.  He has a plan for you.  Not only does he have a plan for you, but he has it perfectly timed out so that things unfold just as they should, in the order he has them and exactly when you are ready.

When you are able to get to a place where you are ready to relinquish all the things you try so hard to control, you will realize how much easier life can be.  Let go of the need to try to control.  This one was HUGE for me.  I was a perfectionist and in some regards I still am with work or things I put my name behind.  But in the bigger sense I tried very hard to control my life and my surroundings so that everything was geared toward perfection.  I believe we are all guilty of controlling in some way, shape, or form.

Let’s take a step back for a moment just as I did not very long ago.  What I realized in this moment is that God is the ONLY achievement of true perfection that exists.  No one besides him is perfect.  Nothing besides what he creates is perfect.  But then wait…he created you, and me.  Therefore, we are perfect in this sense and if we are perfect then why do we try so hard to change that?  Sure, there are things we can work on, but God created us just the way he wanted us to be.

Every single thing we face in life, whether it is an illness, a bad habit, sadness, loss, extreme happiness or even death, they are each emotions and phases of life that God had planned for us since the day we were born.  He has the ultimate roadmap already set out for your life.  He might let us fall off track, but that is only so that we may be lost and find him again.  He will always guide us right back to the path he has set for us.  So, there is no point in worrying.  Trust and know that God has a plan and his timing is perfect, just like him.  Let go and have faith that He is guiding your every step.
