I used to chase a lot of things – buzzes, people, places – back in my hay days of partying. I was looking for happiness, connection and fulfillment in all the wrong places. Sometimes I would run so fast and so hard that I would even forget what day it was. I lived for the cheap thrills nestled inside the highs of drugs, alcohol and the party scene.
But one day, and I can’t recall it’s exact pinpoint, something changed. The fun wasn’t fun anymore. I was living out of habit and necessity rather than choice. I had allowed external validation from external sources become my source of happiness. And before I knew it, they were dictating my reality. I had lost track of who I was and I had no sense of faith, inner peace or connection to myself anymore. Instead I was depressed, anxious and feeling an unexplainable void.
It wasn’t until I dropped to my knees in what would become the first of many prayers asking for help for a better life, that a major shift happened. And once I realized I could connect to God and my spirit for guidance, peace, serenity, happiness and power, everything changed. My eyes were opened to this field of knowledge for my evolution and a playground of information inside of me to learn from.
It’s easy to get wrapped up in all the things in the world pulling us in hundreds of different directions everyday, begging for our attention. For me it was addiction, but for many others its careers, money, materialist things or maybe even having the best body. What ever it may be, over time, we can find ourselves stuck in the headspace of “IF I can just get this (money, job, lover) or go here (a trip or grand adventure) or reach there (promotion, title, our version of success)…THEN I’ll be happy.”
So easily we forget that happiness is not a thing or a place or a person. It’s not going to come from a following or likes on Facebook or Instagram. Happiness is found in our soul. It exists within each of us and is a feeling we always have available to us if we are willing to go inside.
Once you learn that happiness is already inside you, you’ll want to spend a lot more time there.
In the pursuit of our dreams, desires and wants, we must be sure that we don’t ever lose sight of what’s inside of us, which is more important than any “thing.” There is no amount of money, good times, parties, trips, clothes, cars, shoes, houses…that can ever give us the fulfillment we get from the loving spirit in our souls.
The things of this world are no match or comparison for the divinity inside of you.
If you’re waking up each day tired, sad, depressed, frustrated, unable to make progress or always wanting/needing more, perhaps the “thing” you need the most is not a “thing.” Look inward and ask yourself if how you are living or if your repeat choices are really bringing you happiness. Let’s stop trading pieces of our soul for things of this world that will never bring us the happiness we sincerely desire at our core.
We can acquire many possessions, but the most important acquisition of all is knowing who we are, what makes us truly happy and the desires in the depths of our souls. This only comes by turning within and spending time with ourselves truly getting to know what is on our hearts.
Create your life around this, let go of the material wants, let go of chasing money or success, let go of empty thrills and, instead, live and create from your heart. That is where authenticity is truly born.
By choosing to be our most authentic and loving self while living and acting from a place of intention as we follow our heart’s deepest desires, we leave a trail of magic everywhere we go.
The dreams and desires in your soul, when you get really quiet, are what you were made for. When you allow the spirit in your soul to be the narrator of what you want and the guide of your path, miracles happen. Never forget that we are part of this universe, we are in this universe, but perhaps more importantly than both those facts, is that the universe is in us. Tap in. Miracles are brewing…deep inside you. Namaste.
